Morocco :
The Moroccan Interior ministry decided to sue the daily newspaper Akhbar Al-Yawm and seize it after publishing a caricature about the royal family and using David star on the Moroccan flag. This caricature about the marriage of Prince Moulay Ismail, according to the interior ministry, was a “flagrant violation of the respect of a member of the royal family”.

Besides using the Moroccan flag in an ill-will manner, the caricature was considered as an insult to the motto of the kingdom, so according to the applicable law, it was decided to sue and seize Akhbar Al-Yawm and take all the necessary measures regarding its means and premises.

I fail to see the connection between the prince and the start of david. And it is a start of david no matter what the editor claims. I think this time I support the prince in his conflict with the paper. I however don’t agree with the ministry and the police invading and shutting the paper without a court order.

Actually at the begining of the 20th century the moroccan flag had a star of david on it, instead of the current pentagram. At that time general lyautey removed it.

I somehow doubt that had anything to do with the cartoonist’s intentions.

hey all!
well this makes us ask ourselves if there should be an absolute freedom in journalism.
Concerning the Moroccan flag,I dunno where Mr. Gahn got his info from, the flag was all red in the 17th century but when Morocco was put under the French Protectorate, they added green”Sulayman star” in 1912 just to distinguish between the moroccan flag and other nations’ ones.

OK, it took me a little while to get this whole thing, I am not sure I get the connection between the star and the prince...
anyways!!! journalism is supposed to be free, but unfortunately boundaries were set when people proved their inability to take the responsibility bound to that kind of freedom... so, there’s no wrong or right answer for ur question I guess Tea...
